I just wanna get up on stage at the end of the day and put on the best show that I can for the people that come to watch me. It’s punk rock!

Bursting onto the pop punk scene, trxvis releases his highly-anticipated party anthem “CRASH LANDING.” With the release, he unveiled a wildly entertaining music video featuring his bandmates and a rogue alien friend. Reminiscent of the pop punk icons from the early aughts like blink-182, Sum 41, and Good Charlotte, “CRASH LANDING” is a perfect blend of nostalgia and Gen Z angst. The video was directed by Juan Flores (@sk8orjuan), known for his work with legends on the scene such as Avril Lavigne, Bring Me The Horizon, and newer artists such as jxdn, MOD SUN, and Royal and the Serpent. GR8T was able to catch up with trxvis to discuss his new music and experience in the music industry as a young pop-punk artist.

What first got you into music and what are your biggest musical influences?

What first got me into music was growing up skating and surfing in my local small beach town of Manhattan Beach, California. My dad also put me on early punk bands and hardcore bands when I was a young teenager which definitely influenced my outlook on music and how I enjoyed listening to fast melodic and catchy punk rock songs.

How would you describe the genre of music you typically create and what are your favorite bands/artists in that genre?

The way in which I would describe the genre of music I make is pure pop punk. It blends together the sounds of the early 2000s and the late 90s punk scene, while also giving it a modern feel. My favorite bands would be Sum 41, Blink-182, The Ramones and Green Day.

Describe your creative process when you write new music like “CRASH LANDING”. How do you start creating a new track or album?

Growing up, I have always had a fascination with space and UFOs so writing this song was incredibly easy yet also super satisfying to talk about a hypothetical situation in which I always dreamed of or thought about. Which is being abducted by aliens. When I start creating new tracks, I tend to work with my production team and my band to come up with fun anthemic catchy melodies and also pick and pull from situations going on in my life. Every song is different.

For the music video of “CRASH LANDING”, who came up with the concept? How involved were you in making the video?

I was heavily involved with the creative process of putting together this Music Video, as I essentially directed the entire video and came up with the idea along with the help of my videographer Juan Flores. He was also a pivotal part in the creation and concept of this video.

Who would be your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?

Right now, the ideal musician/band that I would like to collaborate with would be The Story So Far. I love everything about the melodies and instrumental progressions within their music, along with Parker Cannon‘s voice. They have been a massive inspiration for my music and the music to come. I would also love to collaborate with Machine Gun Kelly because of his creativity and passion for the genre of pop punk. I think putting a project together with him and Travis Barker would also be a dream collaboration of mine.

What are some of your favorite venues to perform in and what are some of your least favorite venues?

I am relatively new to the pop punk scene and especially the performing scene, but I would have to say old school halls and theaters would be the coolest and most fun to perform, while small clubs would be my least favorite because of the sound.

What's your process for dealing with performance anxiety?

Dealing with performance anxiety is something you can never escape, but the remedy that always helps me is to hype myself up with my band and to just tell myself that it’s OK to mess up. I am in the genre of music that being too perfect is looked down upon but also being imperfect is something that is respected and also something that is OK. I just wanna get up on stage at the end of the day and put on the best show that I can for the people that come to watch me. It’s punk rock!

How has the internet impacted the music industry and how do you see it affecting your career?

The Internet has positively and negatively affected my outlook on the music industry because I feel like numbers and streams are what account to the success of an artist, when in reality, the algorithm doesn’t decide who becomes a successful musician and who doesn’t. I feel like putting out the best music that you possibly can and incorporating amazing visuals and content is extremely important and can redefine the success of any musician or band. I think being a visual artist is incredibly important nowadays because everyone is so glued to their phone and especially all social media platforms. That is why I take my visuals incredibly seriously and my content as serious as the music. I want people to paint a picture in their heads and immediately understand the idea that I’m putting in front of them without having to guess or be unsure of what that concept is.

What’s your advice for aspiring young musicians?

I think being obsessed and unbelievably passionate about becoming a musician and becoming a successful musician is the most important thing. You have to have an unbelievable amount of drive and optimism when trying to do something like this. Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re not good enough or that your stuff is not going to make it, you have to believe in yourself more than anyone around you.

What can we expect next from trxvis?

You can expect many more singles to be released within the remainder of the year as well as a larger body of work heading into early fall. All of this will be what leads me into my first official festival with the Vans Warped Tour. I will also be playing many live shows as we head into the summer. GR8T
