Saranghae and Myno Releases a Valentines Day EP, Limerance

Australia based independent artist duo Saranghae (Sydney) and Myno (Brisbane) release a special Valentine’s Day EP, limerance. The four track project delivers a personal narrative, tracing the rise and fall of Myno’s past relationship, capturing both the intensity of connection and the unraveling of a toxic breakup.

Known for his Korean R&B inspired Indie pop sound, Saranghae colors limerance with vibrant, textured melodies, while Myno’s emotive vocals mark a long awaited return following a one year creative hiatus.

As GR8T Magazine introduces Saranghae and Myno for the first time, we recommend listening to limerance before diving into our interview. At the end, discover a special Valentine’s Day playlist curated by the duo for fans and readers alike.

Welcome to GR8T Magazine Saranghae and Myno! Congratulations on the new EP. Can you introduce yourselves to our readers?

  • Saranghae:
Hiii! I’m Saranghae, a producer/artist from Sydney. I like playing video games, playing volleyball, eating food and pooping (especially on company time).

  • Myno:
Yo wsp I’m Myno, an artist from Brisbane. I like playing TFT, going out with the boys (maybe a bit too much), and pooping (doesn’t need to be on company time I just like pooping)

This is your first longer length project together. Can you tell us how the collaboration came to be? Did you know each other prior?

  • Saranghae:
The first time we met was actually in bixby’s discord server. Myno had dropped a song with an open verse and I remember the whole server loved it. Ironically, when I sent him my verse he didn’t really like it. However he did go through my discography at the time and really liked my production - after that we kept tabs on each other ever since (especially since we’re both in Australia). We’ve worked on a number of singles together, usually I get started with a beat and we both put vocals over it. The idea of an EP came around in early 2024 - usually in the beginning of the year I like to put out an EP to start the year strong. At the time we were talking about making an EP about a foreign resident in a xenophobic Asian country who fell in love with a local student in university. The foreigner would have to face the conflict between his love for the girl and the judgement of everyone around him. Some of the songs meant for that EP ended up being released as singles or stowed away in my hard drive.

  • Myno:
I’m going to be honest, my first memory of Saranghae was when I was drunk in a voice call HAHA. I vaguely remember he was playing a beat he made and I liked it a lot. He sent it to me but I was too drunk to do anything about it. The next day I forgot about the beat but I remembered aranghae because he’s a super funny guy.

We heard that limerance is based on a true story about a relationship that started at a rave and got complicated. Does each track represent a stage of that journey? How has this affected your creative process?

  • Saranghae:
Yes limerance was based off Myno’s recent breakup with a girl he met from a rave. He actually moved into my city to stay with the girl when they were still together. In that time I remember he was very much off the grid and I was really worried for him. When things ended and he moved back home I felt like I really wanted to make something that tried to encapsulate how I saw things from a third person perspective. And what better person to do it with than the guy himself!

  • Myno:
For the initial planning stage of the EP I actually had no idea about what it was about. At the time I remember Saranghae was on holiday and usually what he does right before his EOY holiday is he will dump a bunch of the leftover stuff he worked on throughout the year to all his music friends. Usually I’m on holiday as well so I can’t record on them. However, this time I was free and I worked on a couple. Over time though I could really see the vision and we sort of came to the tracklist and the meaning behind it by around the second half of the process. Fun fact - in one of Saranghae’s holiday dumps I was meant to be on his top song “online” but I ended up getting sick and not finishing it.

Limerence was released on Valentine's Day, but the story is about a breakup and a toxic relationship. Was this intentional irony, or is there a different meaning?

  • Saranghae:
Personally after seeing Myno’s situation over last year I feel like things such as Valentine’s Day can be overhyped. People seem to romanticise relationships quite a bit; especially with a loneliness epidemic in today’s day and age. This EP was a bit of a cautionary tale to anyone who thinks they’re ready for a relationship but Myno and I also agreed that it’s also for the people who don’t have anyone on Valentine’s Day - that they have something to listen to.

  • Myno:
Honestly after the whole situation I feel like Saranghae has a point about all the lonely people on Valentine’s Day. I suggested dropping it on that day so people who don’t have anything to do with anyone can at least listen to an EP made by two people who also don’t have anything to do on that day LOL

What are each of your favorite lines from the EP that you think sums up that feeling of 'limerance' best?

  • Saranghae:
“what are you to me?” on shawtyyy tackles an idea I wish we fleshed out more. I think there’s this underlying issue of not really understanding what you are committing to when it comes to young love. I see it quite often whether it's with my friends or in this situation. It’s one of those questions where I feel like you have to just go through such things to find out the answer for yourself.

  • Myno:
“where do i go when there’s no other place to call home” on frostbite is quite personal to me. Quite literally because I genuinely didn’t know where to call home I was quite scared I was either going to be homeless or living in a place I don’t want to live in.

Myno, it’s so great to see you back in our playlists. How does it feel to get back to music? For others who may currently be going through a creative hiatus, what would you like to share from your journey?

  • Myno:
I think this time I’m coming back with a lot more direction and drive. This guy Saranghae has this relentless work ethic and now that we’re working on stuff it’s sort of rubbing off on me. I think we’ve both gotten to this point where the urgency to try and make it big is starting to become quite apparent; and the truth is I feel like I just want to pour out everything I have to offer this pursuit before I can’t anymore. So I guess to those who are going through a hiatus, you will never get that time back. Each day is a day you could’ve spent discovering what you could have made or done.

Saranghae, a couple years back you mentioned your artist name, which means “I love you” in Korean, was in fact a message to yourself and to your fans. Has that meaning of “love” developed or changed through time, and if so, how?

  • Saranghae:
Honestly the meaning of my name has changed from just me and my listeners to also the songs themselves. I’ve made a lot of stuff and I feel like unlike a lot of other artists in my field I make all of them completely from scratch. It’s hard to explain but I do feel like I make these songs with a great deal of love and care since I can control every little detail of it. I just hope that when people listen to my music they can hear how much love I’ve put into each song, and that it just feels a lot more homemade. Sort of like my grandmother's cooking!

Lastly, can you each suggest five songs for a 10 track playlist as a Valentine’s Day gift to readers and fans?

  • Saranghae & Myno
