Feature TV Series: Gold Leaf (TV Series)

Directed by Taiwanese director Chun-Yang Lin, award winner of the Golden Bell Award for Best Director for his 2020 TV series, “The World Between Us.” The new upcoming Taiwanese drama “Gold Leaf” is set in 1949 Taiwan when the tea industry was massively popular.

This new TV series tells the story of the only daughter of a tea merchant who owns the largest tea factories in Taiwan. Witnessing the family business become crippled by debt, the daughter, played by Cindy Lien, takes it upon herself to save her family’s fortune. Despite being in an era where women were never seen in high positions of power, and businesswomen were unheard of she persists in trying to save the family business.

Gold Leaf is not only grand in its storytelling, but also in its cast, language diversity and costume and set. The series stars a star-studded cast of Cindy Lien, James Wen, Simon Hsueh and Tzu-Chien Kuo. It’s the first Taiwanese drama using Hailu Hakka for most of its dialogues, while also featuring Mandarin, Hokkien, English, Japanese, and Shanghainese. The set and costume design also meticulously recreates the touch and texture of the glorious tea age.

This star studded twelve-part Television series is set to premiere on Netflix November 13, 2021.
